NACAN is an acronym for National Air traffic Communicators Association of Nigeria. The association's statutorily responsibility is to ensure the safe and efficient provision of point-to-point Aeronautical Telecommunications Services by its members.
This entails the exchange of all categories of Airtrafic Service messages (ATS Messages) and digital data for the safe, regular, efficient, expeditious and economic operations of air navigation services between aeronautical fixed stations in Nigeria and between Nigeria and other International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) contracting states globally.
The association’s operational base is the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).
E-voting App and Website – Development Challenges
1. Accessibility
Traditional voting systems may pose accessibility challenges for individuals with disabilities or those who are unable to physically visit polling stations.
An e-voting app can provide accessible voting options, such as screen readers, alternative input methods, and customizable interfaces, ensuring that all eligible voters can participate in the electoral process.
2. Geographic Constraints
Traditional voting systems require voters to visit specific polling locations, which may be inconvenient for individuals living in remote areas or those unable to travel on election day.
An e-voting app enables voters to cast their ballots remotely from any location with internet access, overcoming geographic constraints and increasing voter participation.
3. Voter Turnout
Low voter turnout is a common challenge in traditional elections due to factors such as long wait times at polling stations, scheduling conflicts, and voter apathy.
By providing a convenient and user-friendly voting experience, an e-voting app can encourage higher voter turnout, leading to more representative and democratic election outcomes.
4. Security
Traditional voting systems may be vulnerable to security threats such as ballot tampering, voter impersonation, and hacking.
E-voting apps can incorporate advanced security features such as encryption, multi-factor authentication, and blockchain technology to protect the integrity and confidentiality of votes, ensuring a secure and trustworthy electoral process.
5. Cost
Traditional voting systems incur costs associated with printing paper ballots, hiring poll workers, and renting polling facilities. By transitioning to an e-voting app, organizations can reduce these expenses,
leading to cost savings and greater efficiency in election management.
6. Transparency
Traditional voting systems may lack transparency, making it difficult for voters to verify the accuracy and integrity of election results.
E-voting apps can provide real-time access to voting data, audit trails, and result tallies, enabling voters to monitor the electoral process and ensure transparency and accountability.
E-voting App and Website – Proposed Solutions
1. Accessibility Features:
Text-to-Speech (TTS): Provide TTS functionality to assist visually impaired users in navigating the app and reading ballot options aloud.
High Contrast Mode: Offer a high contrast mode for users with low vision to improve readability.
Adjustable Font Size: Allow users to customize the font size to suit their preferences.
2. Geographic Accessibility:
Remote Voting: Enable voters to cast their ballots from any location with internet access, reducing the need to physically visit polling stations.
GPS Locator: Allow users to locate nearby polling stations and view wait times to facilitate in-person voting.
3. Voter Turnout Solutions:
Push Notifications: Send reminders and notifications to users about upcoming elections, deadlines for registration, and voting opportunities to encourage participation.
In-App Voter Education: Provide informational resources, tutorials, and guides within the app to educate users about the voting process and the importance of civic engagement.
4. Security Measures:
End-to-End Encryption: Encrypt all data transmission between the app and server to protect the privacy and integrity of votes.
Biometric Authentication: Implement biometric authentication (e.g., fingerprint or facial recognition) to verify the identity of voters and prevent unauthorized access.
5. Efficiency Enhancements:
Electronic Ballot Creation: Allow election administrators to create and customize electronic ballots quickly and efficiently.
Real-Time Results Reporting: Display real-time updates on voter turnout and election results to provide transparency and foster trust in the electoral process.
6. Cost Reduction Features:
Paperless Voting: Eliminate the need for printed ballots and associated materials, reducing printing costs and environmental impact.
Automated Processes: Automate manual processes such as ballot counting and result tabulation to minimize staffing and resource requirements.
